Ford Door Lock Kit ASP D-42-261 Door Lock Cylinder with Tumblers, Springs & Chrome Face Cap - H75 Keyway - similar to previous numbers D-42-251 or DL5886U (D42261)
This is the 8-cut uncoded door lock cylinder used on many different models since 1996 with the lock cylinder separate from the door handle. This change was made necessary because of the closing of the Lockcraft factory, and the current availability of component parts suitable for these applications.
The components of the new locks are not interchangeable with the previous locks or with the locks originally installed on the cars. But when installed on the car there should be no noticeable difference between this lock and the lock that was replaced.
These new locks use the first 8-cut design components that were used by Hurd Lock before that company stopped supplying Ford Motor Co.
Here are the exact supersedes:
Chrome face cap and chrome dust cover:
Previous numbers D-42-251 or DL5886U
New number D-42-261
Other differences between the previous numbers and the new numbers are as follows:
New numbers include tumblers and springs for assembly, previous numbers did not include these parts.
New numbers include one pawl that is reversible for right and left side, previous numbers included 2 pawls handed for right side and left side (required because of the design of the end of the plug).
The pawl issue is important because similar locks supplied by Strattec or by Ford dealers do not include
pawls and no longer supply pawls for those locks.
Applications of these locks are as follows:
Explorer 2-door (wagon body) 2001-05
F-series all 1996
Heavy Trucks with 8-cut key and lock cylinder separate from the door handle
B-Series pickup 1996-11
